The actual data roughly following the predicted data before the drop doesn't mean much. The curves before the drops could be deduced by historical data at that time. But the "collapse" is just an irregularity that doesn't follow. Not saying that there is no problem ahead, just that "oh shit it's happening"-reactions are not warranted because of the correct predictions before the first irregularity.

We got almost limitless amount of oil, coal and gas left. At least enough for the next few centuries. Food per capita goes up because of the co2 fertilization. Global pollution will not reach that high. Population is not true, it will continue to grow to 15 billion or so, because of the food. All in all a load of ridiculous bullshit.

It's always the same... those papers table on trends continuing undisturbed... but that is almost never the case. That's the same reason why Malthus was wrong. he did not understood birthrates would eventually lower in the developed world, nor did he predicted the miraculous breakthrough in the field of synthetic fertilizer spearheaded by Fritz Haber that allowed for our agricultural output to rise exponentially. The thing is, when everything is said and done, Historical trends turn out to be defined mostly by black swans... and those, by their very definition, cannot be anticipated. (for example the alarmist claiming we would run out of fuel by the year 2000 could not anticipate fracking, nor the untapped reserves yet undiscovered offshore and in the arctic) I guess what I'm trying to say is we should have a little more faith in human ingenuity.
